Q
Acids,Bases, and Salts

Question:

Under what soil condition do you think a farmer would treat the soil of his fields with quick lime (calcium oxide) or slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) or chalk (calcium carbonate)?

Answer:

Quick lime, slaked lime and chalk are alkaline compounds. So, farmers should use these compounds, when their soil is too acidic. These compounds neutralized the acid and increase the pH of the soil.
