Chemical reactions and equations

What is a balanced chemical equation? Why should chemical equations be balanced?

The balanced chemical equation is the equation in which the number of atoms of each element remains the same, before and after a chemical reaction.

The Law of Conservation of Mass states that the mass can neither be created nor be destroyed. To obey the law of conservation of mass, the total mass of the reactants should be equal to the total mass of the products. If the chemical equation is not balanced, the law of conservation of mass is not applicable.
