Metals and Non-metals

What type of oxides are formed when non-metals combine with oxygen?

When a non-metal reacts with oxygen, acidic oxides are formed. These oxides dissolved in water to form acid. For example, carbon is a non-metal that reacts with oxygen to form carbon dioxide gas.

C (s) + O2 (g) → CO2 (g)

When carbon dioxide dissolved in water, carbonic acid will form.

CO2 (g) + H2O (l) → H2CO3 (aq)
