### Chapter 3: Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables

Q
##### Pair of linear equations in two variables CBSE NCERT Solutions

Question:

The coach of a cricket team buys 3 bats and 6 balls for Rs 3900. Later, she buys another bat and 3 more balls of the same kind for Rs 1300. Represent this situation algebraically and graphically.

Solution: Suppose the cost of 1 cricket bat is Rs x and the cost of 1 cricket ball is Rs y.

According to given conditions, we have

3x + 6y = 3900 $\Rightarrow$ x + 2y = 1300 ... (I)

And x + 3y = 1300 (II)

 x 0 1300 y 650 0

For equation x + 2y = 1300, we have the following points which lie on the line.

 x 0 1300 y $\frac{1300}{3}$ 0

For equation x + 3y = 1300, we have the following points which lie on the line.

We plot the points for both of the equations x + 2y = 1300 & x + 3y = 1300. The following is the graphical representation of the given situation.

These two lines intersect at B (1300,0).
