A battery of 9 V is connected in series with resistors of 0.2 Ω, 0.3 Ω, 0.4 Ω, 0.5 Ω and 12 Ω, respectively. How much current would flow through the 12 Ω resistor?

Answer:

The current is the same through all resistors as they are connected in series. So, we will find the total current in the circuit to find out the current flow through the 12 Ω resistor.

The total resistance of the circuit, R = R_1 + R_2 + R_3 + R_4 + R_5

R = 0 .2 + 0.3 + 0.4 + 0.5 + 12 = 13.4 Omega

R = 13.4 Omega

V = 9 V {Given}

Using Ohm’s law,

V = IR

I = frac{V}{R}

I = frac{9}{13.4}

I = 0.671 A

Therefore, the current flow through the 12 Ω resistor is 0.671 A.
