Q
The Human Eye and the Colourful World

Question:

Explain why the planets do not twinkle.

Answer:

Planets are much closer to the earth as compared to the stars and are therefore seen as extended sources of light. If the planet is considered as a collection of a large number of point sized sources of light, the variation in the amount of light entering our eyes from all the point sized sources will nullify each other’s effect and hence the planets do not twinkle.
