The Human Eye and the Colourful World

Why does the Sun appear reddish early in the morning?

During sunrise, the sun is near the horizon and so the sunlight has to pass through thick layers of air and cover a larger distance to reach our eyes. Now, the fine particles of the atmosphere have a size smaller than the wavelength of the visible light and so they scatter lights more of shorter wavelength as compared to lights of longer wavelengths. Therefore, blue light is scattered more than the red light due to which light of longer wavelength, that is red light reaches our eyes. Thus, the sun appears reddish early in the morning.
