Q
Separation of substances

Question:

How will you separate sand and water from their mixture?

Answer:

We can separate sand and water from their mixture by the method of sedimentation and decantation. First, we allow the sand to settle down at the bottom. This process is called Sedimentation. Sedimentation is the process in which the heavier component settles at the bottom when water is added to it.

Secondly, we separate water using the method of decantation. Decantation is the process in which the solid or any immiscible liquid is separated from the liquid by removing the liquid layer at the top of the solid or immiscible liquid layer.
