Chapter 3: Separation of substances

Q&A -Ask Doubts and Get Answers

Separation of substances

Is it possible to separate sugar mixed with wheat flour? If yes, how will you do it?

We can separate sugar and wheat flour from their mixture by sieving. Sieving is the technique in which two or more components of different sizes are separated from the mixture based on their sizes. In this method, the mixture of solids is passed through a tool called a sieve. The solid which has a smaller size can pass through the sieve while the bigger solid will not pass the sieve.

When we pass the mixture of sugar and wheat flour through a sieve, sugar has a bigger size so it will stay on the sieve, while the wheat flour will pass through a sieve.
