Explain the process of formation of petroleum.


Petroleum (also known as crude oil) is a fossil fuel formed from the remains of ancient marine organisms. It is mined from the rocks under the Earth. It is a dark oily liquid with an unpleasant odor. It is a source of petrol and diesel. It is a mixture of various constituents such as petroleum gas, petrol, diesel, lubricating oil, paraffin wax, etc. It is prepared when the dead bodies of the marine organism decayed over of period of time in intense pressure and heat under the earth's crust.
