Q
Chemical Effects of Electric Current

Question:

A child staying in a coastal region tests the drinking water and also the seawater with his tester. He finds that the compass needle deflects more in the case of seawater. Can you explain the reason?

Answer:

Because the amount of salt dissolved in seawater is more than the salt dissolved in drinking water. So, the conductivity of the seawater is more than the drinking water which means more amount of current will pass through the seawater. This is why the compass needle deflects more in the case of seawater than the drinking water.
