Natural Resources

How are living organisms dependent on the soil? Are organisms that live in water totally independent of soil as a resource?

Soil is an important resource that decides the diversity of life in a particular area. It plays an important role in the biogeochemical cycle. It provides the appropriate nutrients and water to the plants and insects that live inside the soil. It provides the natural habitat of various organisms that maintain the fertility of the soil.

All the organisms that live in water can depend on the soil as a resource. Minerals are present in water in the dissolved form. The recycling of these minerals requires decomposers that are present in the soil bed. Thus, all the water bodies have soil beds where the decomposes recycle the mineral and convert it into an absorbable form.
