The Fundamental Unit of Life

What would happen if the plasma membrane ruptures or breaks down?

The plasma membrane is the outer boundary of the cell and it is composed of lipids and proteins. The plasma membrane is a selectively permeable membrane that allows the entry and exit of some material in the cells. If the plasma membrane ruptures or breaks down, it acts as a mechanical barrier that restricts the exchange of material between cell and its surrounding through osmosis or diffusion. Hence, cells will eventually die due to the absence of protoplasmic materials.
