Q
The Fundamental Unit of Life

Question:

Which type of cell division is required for growth and repair of body and which type is involved in formation of gametes?

Answer:

Cell division is the process in which new cells are produced from the parent cells. Mitosis and Meiosis are the two main types of cell division. In mitosis, most of the cells divide for growth. In this process, the mother cell divides into two identical daughter cells that have the same number of chromosomes as the mother cell has. It helps in the growth and repair of tissues in organisms. In meiosis, the mother cell divides into four new cells and each cell has half number of chromosomes as the mother cell has. Specific cells of reproductive organs or tissues in animals and plants divide using the process of meiosis to form gametes.
