Q&A -Ask Doubts and Get Answers

The earth and the moon are attracted to each other by gravitational force. Does the earth attract the moon with a force that is greater or smaller or the same as the force with which the moon attracts the earth? Why?

According to the Universal law of gravitation, two objects attract each other and By Newton's third law, the force of attraction between two objects is the same but in opposite direction. Thus the earth attracts the moon with the same force as the moon exerts on earth but in opposite directions.

By universal law of gravitation, the force between earth and moon is

F = Gfrac{M_EM_m}{r^2}
