Heredity and Evolution

How are the areas of study – evolution and classification – interlinked?

Organisms are classified into groups on the basis of similarities they possess. The two species sharing a greater number of similarities are more closely related with each other and might have evolved from the common ancestor. Thus, evolution and classification are interlinked.
