Q
Heredity and Evolution

Question:

Outline a project which aims to find the dominant coat colour in dogs.

Answer:

In order to find the dominant coat in dogs, we have to select male and female dogs that have either black or brown color coat. Then we cross the homozygous male (BB) with a homozygous female (bb) and observe the coat color in the offspring. If all the progeny have the black color coat, that means that black color will be the dominant coat color. If the progeny has a brown color coat, that means that brown color will be the dominant coat color.

According to Punnett square of F1 generation, all the progeny will show a black colored coat. Hence, black is the dominant trait.
