Separation of substances

What is sieving? Where is it used?

Sieving is the technique in which two or more components of different sizes are separated from the mixture based on their sizes. In this method, the mixture of solids is passed through a tool called a sieve. The solid which has a smaller size can pass through the sieve while the bigger solid will not pass the sieve.

It is commonly used to remove stone or husk from wheat in a flour mill. It is also used in construction sites to removing stones or pebbles from the sand.
