Physical and Chemical Changes

When a candle burns, both physical and chemical changes take place. Identify these changes. Give another example of a familiar process in which both the chemical and physical changes take place.

When the candle is burned, the wax melts, and hence, its physical composition changes. The vapor of wax burns to form carbon dioxide along with heat and light. This means that the chemical composition of wax changes to form new substances. So, it's a chemical change.

LPG is another example that shows both physical and chemical change. When LPG comes out of the cylinder, its phase changes from liquid to gas. This means that it shows a physical change. When we burn LPG, the chemical composition of LPG changes to form a new substance along with heat and light. So, it shows a chemical change.
